Yesterday I had a rainbow party! I woke up, put on my brightest clothing (pink shirt, yellow sweater, blue polka dot skirt, and my rainbow socks!) and got to baking. You see, I had several layers to make for my rainbow cake!
I decided to make red velvet cake for the red and purple layers. I used this recipe from Bitter Sweet. I doubled the recipe and then split it between two layers. For the center layers of my cake I used this amazing vegan white cake recipe from My Vegan Cookbook. SO TASTY! Since it specifically warns against doubling the recipe, I actually made it twice, then divided each batch into two colors. I sloppily iced everything with this white vegan cake icing as guests arrived! It was a mess, but soooo tasty.
Alex got a few rainbow candies and made pink lemonade. We also made fruit and veggie platters in rainbow order, and our friends brought some more rainbow foods! It was a deliciously colorful feast
I didn’t have to do much decorating, as we already have lots of color in our apartment! I did pull out my rainbow quilt. [The party was originally going to be a picnic in the park, but we were rained out. Austin needs the rain though, so no complaints here!] For the table, I laid down some sparkly cellophane, then arranged all of our rainbow food
Such a fun day, all dedicated to rainbows It was a great way to put some color into a gray and rainy day!
I hope you all had a wonderful Saint Valentine’s Day Ours was so hectic, but beautiful!! Lots of little specials throughout the day ♥
There are many big things happening in my world right now. Everything is hectic! We were in New Orleans over the weekend for my soccer tournament – super fun, but exhausting! Long story short: drove all day Friday, won first game Saturday 3-0, got a concussion in game 2 (we lost), French Quarter in the evening, cheered on my team Sunday (ended up in 3rd place!), and a looong drive home. Enjoyable craziness!
More news to come….but that’s all for tonight 😉 Oh! And you can find the DIY for those adorable heart tights right here, on the pineneedle collective. Make cute things! xo
It’s been a strange weekend thus far. Up and down and all over the place! Life is so full of moving parts Right now the hubby is cooking dinner (yay!), and I ran across this while…ehm, cleaning the studio….;) So neat!
“Map of Texas Hand Embroidered Necklace” by Il Gatto Selvatico
Tomorrow I plan to check a few things off my 25 before 26 list! (I’m running out of time!) That is all. Have a great weekend!
I decided Sunday night to make the them of this week POSITIVITY! Positive thinking makes everything better. It’s been going pretty well so far If something isn’t going right, I take a deep breath and think positively. Always helpful! Plus, happiness is contagious.
Since we’re halfway through, I thought I’d share some mid-positivity-week inspiration
So let’s all go out and radiate sunshine! 😉
Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2012 has been kind to you so far!
Obviously my hiatus lasted a little longer than planned. There were many reasons for taking a break, but now I’m refreshed and ready to start anew! I’m still designing and crafting all the time, so I’ll be blogging about my latest projects again
As for changes, I’ve been spending more and more time cooking, so this year I’ll be sharing some of my adventures in food making in addition to my other creative pursuits. I’ve also been getting ever more deeply involved in the furniture and interior design world, so that’ll probably spill over more in my design posts. I can’t wait to share my latest passions with you!
How about we start off with a couple of my recent favs?
Design & Art: I love this apartment featured in Elle Decor. It’s beautifully designed, luxurious, yet very fun and full of personality. The designers Timothy Haynes and Kevin Roberts, or Haynes-Roberts Inc, really pushed the envelope (I’m sure having lots of time and a huge budget helped ;)) and the results are gorgeous. Also, I want this painting by Takashi Murakami!!
Crafts: I made these adorable slippers for Christmas gifts this year! I found the pattern in a vintage crochet magazine and fell in love (They reminded me of slippers my sister had as a kid!) It was the first time I’d made anything foot-related, so it was new and exciting for me.
Food: My favorite recipe of late (except maybe stuffed acorn squash – YUM) is this wonderful walnut taco fiesta from My New Roots. I’ve made it a few times to everyone’s delight. On top of being super tasty, it’s quick and easy to make, which is always a win!
Well, I think that is all for now. Thanks for reading! I’ll be back soon to post some other news and finds 😀 Feel free to leave a comment with a link to your blog, and I’ll come visit you, too!!
Happy Saturday I’m been having a great start to spring so far. What about you?
I’ve been cooking a LOT – it’s really fun to eat something totally new each night But it has been eating (ha!) away at my schedule, too. I’ve been enjoying some time with friends and family. I’ve been knitting – getting so far on my blanket! And I’ve been working a ton. All good things, but also keeping me away from the computer (which can be a good thing).
You may have noticed that I haven’t blogged since Sunday. I’m taking a little hiatus from blogging…but don’t worry, I still love you 😉 I just need to spend some time elsewhere at the moment. But I’ll be back next week! Follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and/or Bloglovin’ for updates!
Well, I’m off with the husband to a cactus & succulent sale at Zilker Botanical Gardens, then Whole Foods, then worrrk. Have a great weekend!
I love my husband because he’ll pull over the car when I get excited about flowers….and then he’ll wish on dandelions with me
I just had to share this sweet little surprise with you! Remember my birthday Etsy wish list? Last night my friend Mary surprised me with the adorable cake stand from it!
So incredibly cute 😀 And the cake was tasty, too! Thank you, Mary!
I hope you don’t mind my sharing something a little more personal here. Since it’s based on my birthday, I figure it should be life goals, or things I really want to accomplish personally. I’m trying to make them simple to check off (rather than “work on being…”), so it’ll be easy to track my progress 😀
