Knitted Wonderland

Friday was the official installation day for A Knitted Wonderland at the Blanton Museum of Art! It was amazing to see so many volunteers in the Faulkner Plaza sewing beautifully knit creations to 99 trees. It got a lot of attention from passers-by on the University of Texas campus, and it was wonderful to see so many people smiling because of our work (play)!

I’m so glad I got to team up with Velma and Sarah to work on a tree together. We also got to help with several other Etsy Austin members and friends – Bridget, Tara, and Marci were all there :)

Several of my other friends and family have gone by to check it out, too. It’s so pretty seeing all the trees together! The exhibit will be open until March 18, so go check it out if you’re in Austin 😉

You Amaze Me, Austin Christmas Lights

One of my favorite things about this time of year has to be Christmas lights. I love perusing neighborhoods to find the most elaborate houses. It’s so joyful! Last night we went to the Capitol to sing carols and watch the tree lighting, then we strolled down Congress Avenue to see what there was to see! We went into museums, listened to live music, and ate candy canes :) All the while, I was in awe of all the Christmas decorations! ♡

I can’t wait to see more 😀  We’re putting our lights up today, and I’m so excited! Do you decorate with lights? What do they look like?

Handmade Gifts: Or Buy Them

Though I’ve surely convinced you by now to make gifts this holiday (;)) there is another option to having a handmade holiday. Another great way to give one-of-a-kind gifts is to buy handmade! Especially this time of year, there are tons of craft shows, which are a lot of fun to peruse and have great goodies for everyone in the family. Etsy Austin’s Craft Riot last weekend was a huge hit, and there are several more fairs coming up in December!

If you can’t make it out to a craft show, there is, of course, always Etsy and other online craft marketplaces. Obviously, as an Etsy seller, I’m going to recommend it first. But I also think the Shop Local feature is really amazing! It’s a quick and easy way to find vendors from your own area. And of course there are always stores that sell local goods. Luckily for me, Austin is a great place to find local goods :)

And buying local is great for the community! It spurs the local economy, helps out entrepreneurs, and you get to know your neighbors! So if you can’t make all your gifts this year, at least try to buy some, and have a happy handmade holiday 😀
