3 Things Friday

Another week has flown by, and what a week it’s been! Our gym finally opened, I made soup for the first time, and we tried a new local restaurant. It’s been 80° and 17°. We had Groundhog Day [I’m all for pointless holidays, but they should at least involve candy!] and Chinese New Year – did you celebrate? But I’m most excited for today: SNOW DAY! What a great way to end the week! 😀 And when it boils down to my three things…

The good: I learned a new knitting stitch, and I absolutely love it! I’ve started on my first blanket with a soft, lustrous yarn in….Herringbone Stitch!Herringbone Stitch

The not-as-good: I wasn’t as productive as I could have been. I spent much of last night playing Sudoku (I’m addicted) instead of working on anything.

The best: I get to spend today completing projects! I already finished a painting, which was super fun, and next I’ll be sewing! Then maybe some crochet and cross-stitch…It’s going to be good :)

What were your 3 things this week?

3 Things Friday

The Good: I got some delicious, deep purple, dupioni silk for some upcoming projects. Ohhh it’s good enough to eat!

The Not-so-Good: With the new job, I’m having a hard time fitting in much crafting!

The Great: I got to use a Canon EOS 5D – a digital SLR camera, and it was amazing. After a few photoshoots, I’m really getting the hang of all the manual settings! I may have to become a full-time photographer so I can have one for my very own ;D The photos just turn out so beautifully…

You Amaze Me, Austin Christmas Lights

One of my favorite things about this time of year has to be Christmas lights. I love perusing neighborhoods to find the most elaborate houses. It’s so joyful! Last night we went to the Capitol to sing carols and watch the tree lighting, then we strolled down Congress Avenue to see what there was to see! We went into museums, listened to live music, and ate candy canes :) All the while, I was in awe of all the Christmas decorations! ♡

I can’t wait to see more 😀  We’re putting our lights up today, and I’m so excited! Do you decorate with lights? What do they look like?

You Amaze Me, Cold Weather

This weekend we finally got our first freeze! (It was in the 80s on Wednesday…yuck.) I just love the smell of crisp, winter air, the feel of warm sweaters, and the taste of hot cocoa. Now I can knit some gifts I’d been putting off and put up our decorations. I’ve got my sweater on and my mug ready. It’s time to get into the holiday spirit!

Welcome to Texas, cold weather :)

Three Things Friday

Oh man, this week has been insane! I can’t believe Craft Riot is tomorrow (forgive me if I mention it too much – it’s all I’ve been thinking about!) and Thanksgiving is next Thursday!! Wow. This year is going to be over before we know it!

This week:
The good: I’m getting really good at crocheting!
The not-so-good: My sewing machine is having issues :(
The best: I’ve been on a product making spree, and it’s been great for my creative soul! Consider the Project Completion Marathon a success 😀

I also got a new iPhone ^___^ The upgrade from the original iPhone (3 years old) to the iPhone 4 is AMAZING. I also got the Instagram app, and it’s so much fun!

How was your week? Did you complete any projects?

You Amaze Me, Space

I have a fascination with the sky. The stars, planets, quasars, black holes…

Each of these images is from NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day, which posts a new image of our universe with a short explanation each day. They are quite beautiful and fascinating, as is the universe itself. Of course we’re all generally rather Earth-centric (we do live here, after all), but I like to take time to stop and ponder the vastness of space. Always helps keep things in perspective 😉 And that is one reason why you amaze me, space.

You Amaze Me, Snorkeling!

We had sooo much fun on our vacation! One of our favorite activities was snorkeling 😀 I loved getting a glimpse of a completely different world. It’s no wonder, with all the strange plants and animals, that centuries ago sailors brought back all kinds of crazy and magical stories!

On our snorkeling adventures
There were stripey fish
And iridescent fish

Grazing blue tangs
And dancing parrot fish
We saw yellow coral
And purple coral!
But most of all
I loved swimming with
the sting rays!
Yay for snorkeling!

I'm back!

I’m finally back home, and I’ve got so much to do already! I’ll be editing and uploading photos this week so you can see what I’ve been up to 😀 And I’ve got some drawing to catch up on!

My Etsy shop is back from vacation mode, and as promised there will be another update soon! Keep an eye out :)

So, what did I miss?! If you have any links I should check out, leave it in the comments! I’m excited to get back to the blog world and see what you’ve all been up to!

You Amaze Me, Fireworks

Every year I start getting really excited…for fireworks. I dance around and squeal like a small child. And I’m ok with that. Because fireworks are awesome. And this year I’ll get to see TWO shows!! On Friday Alex went to the Concerts in the Gardens 4th of July celebration with my parents. It’s an annual event that includes a couple hours of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra playing patriotic music with a fantastic fireworks finale! I hadn’t been in a few years, but it was just as good as I remember! There’s nothing better than eating watermelon in the Botanic Gardens while listening to live music and watching FIREWORKS. Am I right? (A: YES.)

Now I’m off to my in-laws’ cookout. They live close to downtown, so we can watch the Austin fireworks show from their front lawn! While eating. I love eating ^_^

Happy Independence Day!!

PS: Also check out my colors of fireworks post on Birds of a Feather :)
PPS: And I’ll be uploading more photos to my Flickr 😀
